Gear Report: Mask

For freedive spearfishing the ideal mask is low profile and low volume with a wide field of view. The low profile reduces drag, while the low volume requires less air space to equalize and the large field of view helps while hunting fish. Many low volume masks have restricted visibility. I have tried many masks over the years and I have settled on the Aqua Lung Micromask. After using a friend’s mask I ended up buying two of them, just incase the company stopped manufacturing the mask. I have been diving with the same Micromask for the past 10 years, the second mask is still in its original case. I tend to be hard on my diving equipment so it is a testament to the durability of this mask that it has survived 10 years of regular use.
